Allyson Ward Neal
Allyson Ward Neal lived in the Algiers community of New Orleans
in her formative years with her parents Lula Bocage Ward and
James Ward, Jr. Mrs. Neal grew up on Thayer Street with her
two brothers, Aaron Quinton and Andre Lamar Ward. The family
lived only a few houses away from Mrs. Neal's Grandparents,
Lillian Collins Watson and Philip Watson who often told stories
about Algiers' social heyday.

Mrs. Neal attended Algiers' schools including Murray Henderson
Elementary School, Martin Behrman Middle School (formerly a
high school) and L.B. Landry High School. After graduating from
high school, she went on to attend Southern University and A&M
College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she received a
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Print Journalism. After receiving her
B.A., Mrs. Neal attended the Edward R. Murrow School of
Communications at Washington State University where she
received a Master of Arts Degree in Communications.

Mrs. Neal began her professional career as a journalist for the
New York Amsterdam News in Harlem, New York. She also
worked as a reporter for the Chicago Hyde Park Herald and the
Chicago Defender.

Mrs. Neal has held positions with the Arts Council of New
Orleans, the Amistad Research Center at Tulane University and
Hewitt-Washington & Associates, Architects-Planners. Currently,
she works as a Web and Communications Consultant in
Houston, Texas. Mrs. Neal is married to Amos Philip Neal of
Marrero, Louisiana.

Algiers: The Untold Story is Mrs. Neal's first book. She is
currently writing a second volume of the Algiers book titled:
Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure.
