Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure
Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure will be
published in 2010 prior to the opening of the new L. B.
Landry High School. This 175-page, coffee table book will
be filled with more than 200 historical black and white
photographs dating back to the 1930s. It will depict Algiers
and its African American residents during the community's
heyday. The photos are from the collection of Moses and
Gloria Bailey, longtime Algiers residents who took candid
photographs of life in Algiers when they were teenagers.
From L.B. Landry football games to Mardi Gras parades,
the photos capture the essence of a community that was
like no other.
