Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure will be
published in 2007. The book will be an expansion of Algiers:
The Untold Story and include more than 300 photographs of
African American Algiers residents who lived in Algiers between
1940 and 1965.
Taken from the photo albums of longtime Algiers residents,
Moses and Gloria Bailey, the photos chronicle the simple
lifestyle of Algiers' working class African Americans. From
church gatherings to highly touted football games of the L.B.
Landry High School, the photos tell a story of a people who
struggled through segregation, economic injustice and poverty to
create a culture that produced citizens who went on to become
professional athletes, physicians and contributing members of
the New Orleans community.
Algiers: The Untold Story of a New Orleans Treasure promises
to give readers a closer look into the rich past of one of New
Orleans' most treasured neighborhoods.
